FREE File Recovery Tool - Handy Recovery v 1.0

Restoring Deleted Files

  • Handy Recovery is a small tool which restores accidentally deleted files on hard & floppy drives with FAT12/16/32, NTFS & NTFS 5 file systems.

  • It features: an easy-to-use Explorer-style content browser to find lost files; you can batch restore of recursively deleted folders; it has fast disk analysis to find deleted files; and more.

  • This is an essential program to assist in the recovery of deleted files. It will scan a drive and mark with an X any files or folders which have been deleted, and will even mark folders (with a +) which contain deleted files or sub-folders.

  • Recovery is easy and, by default, you are prompted to place recovered files in a special C:\Recovered Files folder (which it will create if it doesn't exist).

  • Programs like Handy Recovery have one major problem – they cannot recover files which have been corrupted by other files being partially or fully written over them. When Windows deletes a file it simply marks that location as being free and any new file installed on to the drive will often be placed on top of the file which had been deleted.

Therefore, the only successful recovery will be between the time that the file has been deleted and when Windows loads another file, or part file, over the space occupied by the deleted file.

It is essential to attempt recovery immediately it is noted that a file has been accidentally deleted. Even waiting a few minutes could mean that the file has been overwritten (possibly with a system file created automatically by Windows) and therefore cannot be recovered.

In most cases, the "recovered" file is full of gobbledy-gook because it was over written by a later file (or files). One HTML file we tried to recover appeared to be OK but when we double-clicked on the file, instead of being opened in a browser, it started to play a tune – a music file now occupied the space of that old HTML file!

We were most impressed with Handy Recovery. If caught quickly enough, it successfully recovered deleted files and made the whole process simple and hassle free.
